Local rules and recommendations for Bergen

Due to the high rate of infection in Bergen, the City Government has adopted to mandate face masks and the registration of guests at eateries and pubs.

In addition, you should observe the infection control recommendations for schools and whether anyone you live with is infected. Here is an overview.

The rules apply from Monday 22 November (Sunday at midnight) to 20 December. They have also been introduced in the municipalities surrounding Bergen, Alver, Askøy, Bjørnafjorden, Samnanger, Vaksdal and Øygarden. 

Face masks - mandatory

If you are unable to maintain at least a distance of one metre to others, you are obliged to wear a face mask on buses, Bergen Light Rail and indoor station areas, in taxis, shops and shopping centres. Before getting in a taxi, you must put on a face mask and wear it until you get out of the vehicle. 

Otherwise, the general recommendation is to wear a face mask in public places.  

The face mask mandate does not apply to children under the age of 12 or for those who cannot wear a face mask due to medical or other reasons.  

Eateries and pubs - mandatory

Pubs, restaurants, cafes, canteens and other eateries shall keep a list of guests including their name, telephone number, and the date and time of their visit. Guests shall be informed that the pub or eatery keeps such a list. The eatery or pub shall save the list in accordance with privacy laws and delete it after 14 days.

Socially - recommendation

Limit the number of close contacts, maintain a greater distance from persons outside your own household, do not shake hands and avoid hugging those to whom you are not closely related.  

Working from home

A general provision on working from home has not been introduced.
